Attorney Gigstad attended the 2017 “DWI Means Defend With Ingenuity” seminar. The seminar was held in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 5-7, hosted by the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) and the National College of DUI Defense (NCDD).
In a series of meetings, DUI defense attorneys gathered to discuss the newest scientific and legal approaches being used to get the best possible outcomes for defendants in DUI cases. Lawyers from all over the nation convened to learn from one another, share ideas, and discuss how to better serve clients facing DUI charges. In one such presentation, Attorney William Kirk, addressed various blood alcohol content (BAC) testing methods, including UAs, EtGs, BAs, SCRAM, and more, and how test results can be handled in court to benefit the defendant. This was one of several informative presentations made related to DUI toxicology, chemical testing, and standardized field sobriety tests used to determine a driver’s level of impairment.
Attendees of the seminar were briefed on new case laws pertaining to DUI cases and given other tools to improve their craft and increase the likelihood of success for their clients. Speakers provided helpful tips and insights for DUI defense lawyers navigating difficult cases involving serious injury, death, expert witnesses, accident reconstruction, and more. Legal professionals in attendance also broke up into smaller groups to discuss courtroom techniques, DUI cases involving drug use, and new technology that could affect clients’ outcomes in criminal court.
